Consumer Code

The Consumer Code for Housbuilders was introduced in 2010 as an industry-led code of conduct for house builders and property developers to make the home buying process more transparent to buyers. The aim of the code is to ensure that buyers are treated fairly and are fully aware of their consumer rights, know what level of service and standard to expect, and are provided with an impartial, low-cost dispute resolution service.

The Code reinforces the requirements imposed on house builders who are registered with the UK's main warranty providers including the NHBC. It applies to all complaints made within two years from the date of legal completion. It also requires house builders to cooperate with Trading Standards and the Citizen's Advice Bureau.

Full details of the Consumer Code can be downloaded from and a copy will be provided to anyone who reserves an Accueil home.
